France - Germany - Austria - Hungary - Roumania - Moldova – Ukraine
Avoid Transnistria!
Travel through Transnistria, the region which is located on the east of Moldova, is not recommended. It is the shortest route and sometimes it is advised by specialised sites but be cautious because no one can guaranty the proper security for you. A lot of travellers - even if they have proper documents - who have crossed the Transnistria from Moldova and Ukraine, reported numerous difficulties with the Transnistrian "border guards" (they deny a possibility of passage or demand to pay a "fine"). Embassy can do nothing with this. Do not travel via Transnistria without a contact person on site who knows the region and behave yourself with the utmost caution.

What about waiting time at the border control of Ukraine?
This may be long or even very long…
What about roads and road signs?
The signs are written in Cyrillic (Russian or Ukrainian language) and it is difficult to understand what does they mean if you cannot read these languages. The roads are in awful condition in Ukraine and it seems like they have never been repaired! But there is at least one positive moment, there are a lot of petrol stations on your way.
Is there any other risks: speed, alcohol, insurance, breakdown, theft, etc?
The Ukrainians are the terrible drives. Often they don’t follow speed or other limits on the road. You've been warned! The level of alcohol in your blood has to be zero.
Do we recommend you to take the car trip?
Absolutely not! The roads in Romania, Bulgaria and Ukraine are not the same as European roads. What would you do in the middle of the Carpathians at night in case of accident, for example? There are also risks of being arrested by the traffic police (GAI) and in this case you’ll have to deal with them and pass through a lot of difficulties and inconveniences ... So if you like to experience an adventure and risk - you might try. If you ask us, we advise you to go by plane, because it is much safer and takes less time to get to the place. Our partner is Ukraine International Airlines. And they offer you comfortable flights to Simferopol (sometimes with a short stop in Kiev).
